Fuel Tank Installed (Again)

Jason at BGM Metalworks did a nice job moving the tank intake tube rearwards (even re-painted the weld area), and now the tank fits as it should. The setup requires a new breather tube, as the old one is now too short, but that's not a big problem.

Tubes now fit, but the forward-extending of the holes in the tub are still necessary.

Tank re-installed, with filler tube attached (Land Rover has a plastic tarp cover on, to protect during painting other parts). Breather tube will go on once it has ben obtained. Triangular brackets sitting on the tank are the lower seatbelt mounts, which will be test fitted and be used to drill the new holes they require in the sills.

Seat belt brackets are just waiting for the seatbox paint to dry for a day or two.

  1. Hi,

The vent seals don't really look right. They should "fill" the groove in the bulkhead better. I had the same problem when getting some that actually would fit. I ended up with seals from Britpart that (of course) were of inferior quality. One seller in the UK advertised genuine seals but sent Britpart... Genuine is NLA according to him.

The BP seals are made of too hard compound, making it almost impossible to close the lids without breaking them. My solution was to cut V shaped grooves in the back where they aren't visible making the seal able to collapse under pressure. Works OK, I think and they look right.

  2. Thanks, Lars, I may just be in touch a little later. The seals as they are, are just a stop-gap measure (no pun intended) until there is a better solution.
