Today is the Land Rover's 53rd birthday. Built July 18, 1960, in Solihull, England, and aside from the chassis and some replacement parts, is mostly completely original. Photo taken yesterday.
This is just a simple pictorial history of my restoration of an original Canadian-import 1960 Land Rover Series 2 88" (or SWB - Short Wheel Base), LHD (Left Hand Drive) which I purchased in August, 2010. Later posts include photos of some of the things I've done with the vehicle since its restoration was essentially completed, although repairs and other maintenance are obviously an ongoing process. Happy Birthday to your Land Rover :-)
ReplyDeleteMy Series 2 was 'born' in September 1960 so is a few months younger than yours.
That's pretty close in age. :) I'm guessing that's 'Ciggy"?
ReplyDeleteYes, that is Ciggy.
DeleteMind you, unlike yours (have you named it?) Ciggy is not that original. She came to us with a Series 3 bulkhead, screen, door hinges, wipers, heater and front axle. I have since fitted more Series 3 parts to bring the axles upto the post 1980 spec and in the next few months Ciggy will be getting 90/110 seats, a Discovery 200TDi engine, a 90/110 brake pedal and servo assembly and to cap it all - NAS spec brake lights! A real mongrel.....
As long as it brings enjoyment, that's what counts to me, mongrel or not. I'm keeping mine as original as possible, as it came that way, but if ever another gets added to the 'fleet', I wouldn't mind doing something like an engine upgrade, etc., as well.
ReplyDeleteYes, to be fair we have another Series truck, my wifes 109" and that is pretty much original including its 2.25d engine and uncomfortable seat squabs! The only real 'mods' we've done have been to fit parabolic springs, gas shocks and bigger tyres.
