This is just a simple pictorial history of my restoration of an original Canadian-import 1960 Land Rover Series 2 88" (or SWB - Short Wheel Base), LHD (Left Hand Drive) which I purchased in August, 2010. Later posts include photos of some of the things I've done with the vehicle since its restoration was essentially completed, although repairs and other maintenance are obviously an ongoing process. Jeep Colours
Thanks to the good folks at the website Bring a Trailer, I saw an advertisement for a 1946 Willys Jeep. Those colours looked familiar! According to the Jeep ad, the colours Harvest Tan with Sunset Red were a factory scheme for the CJ2A Jeep, and look a lot like the gold and red the Land Rover had been painted by the previous owner's neighbor sometime in the early 1980's. I wonder if that neighbor had seen a Jeep in these factory colours, and thought they might also work on a Land Rover? Could just be a coincidence, of course, but I thought it was worth showing here.

LOL, I'm not a great fan of that colour scheme on either the Land Rover or the Jeep!! Your sage green looks far, far superior. I guess the red wheels was a 70's thing?
ReplyDeleteIf the Jeep colours were a factory option, then it's a 40's thing! And not my favourite colours, either. The Land Rover was probably the worst when freshly repainted, as it must have been a shiny gold (oxidation turned it to a sand colour over time). Plus the PO had painted the name "Goldenrod" on the back....
ReplyDeleteYuck, metallic colours are never a good idea on a Series, in fact they don't look that great on a Defender, as they show up every ripple, crease and dent in the panels and amplify the panels gaps.
ReplyDeleteAs for 'GoldenRod', I assume that either the PO had never driven a truly quick vehicle for him/her to associate a Series with a Hot Rod OR the PO was slightly deranged.... ;-)
